Newton County Youth Action Team Hosts "Game On" Kick the Habit 2026 at NCCA
On April 17, 2026, the Newton County Youth Action Team (YAT) brought their annual Kick the Habit prevention event back to Newton College and Career Academy — and this year, they leveled up.
With a "Game On" theme, YAT members designed a full gaming experience to connect with their peers around serious prevention topics. Students rotated through game-themed tables covering vaping prevention, underage alcohol prevention, opioid and prescription drug education, HIV and reproductive health, suicide prevention, and mental health and substance misuse awareness. The creative approach — complete with a Pac-Man section, a football-themed impaired driving station, and interactive floor games — made space for real conversations in an environment that felt energetic and engaging rather than lecture-based.
The event drew 290 attendees including NCCA students, teachers, school administrators, guests, and community partners. PAST (Positive Attitude Students Together) students from Newton High School also attended, giving them a firsthand look at the types of peer-led prevention programming they can bring to their own school.
The YAT logged 7 hours of community impact through this single event, reaching 245 community members as part of their ongoing prevention work supported by Newton Community Partnership.
We are proud of every YAT member who helped plan, design, and run Kick the Habit 2026. Their commitment to educating their peers and making prevention approachable is exactly why this program matters.
